Please tell me if there is any third party software bundled with this like the last time. Updating from GUI, there was NO notification about chrome, much less a way to opt out.

I've been using Avast for years now but when the programme updated to Avast 8 it's causing my PC to blue screen on start up. Error message 'page file error in nonpaged area'.
I've tried removing and reinstalling, system restore but neither work.
Any ideas?

Windows XP 32 bit SP3.

Cheers

Thank you Avast Team for this timely update. Although I was NOT having any serious problems with 8.0.1482, i will try out 8.0.1483 A.S.A.P. (I currently have Ubuntu on my Windows 8 system). I will let you guys know how 8.0.1483 runs later tonight Chicago Time Zone.

Avast 8 Free is still broken / buggy.

Tried update from Avast 7 GUI and on reboot PC hung on Microsoft Corporation Loading bar for Windows.

Tried restarting PC in Last Known Good Config. Avast 7 present but following components could not be started - IM Shield, P2P Shield, File System Shield.

Tried Full uninstall of Avast 7, scrubbed Avast with tool in safe mode. Rebooted. Fresh Install of Avast 8 Free... same issue, on restart PC hangs on Windows loading bar.

Windows Vista x64 SP2
i7 920 @2.67Ghz
6GB Ram

Finally got a resolution on my third attempt -

Tried update from Avast 7 GUI and on reboot PC hung on Microsoft Corporation Loading bar for Windows.

Tried restarting PC in Last Known Good Config. Avast 7 present but following components could not be started - IM Shield, P2P Shield, File System Shield.

Went to Control Panel > Uninstall > Repair.

Once Installation was repaired, restarted the PC, it rebooted without issue and I was shocked to find Avast 8 GUI on inspection. Avast 8 installed, all-be-it with "issues" getting there.

Run the uninstaller for any AV's you used prior to avast from here to remove remanents: http://singularlabs.com/uninstallers/security-software/
1. Download avast! Free Antivirus: http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=117113.0
2. Follow instructions: http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility (Run this tool for all prior installed avast! versions..!!)
3. Reinstall avast! with the downloaded installer from point 1.
4. Reboot

upload the BSOD's dumps to ftp.avast.com/incoming

dumps should be in : C:\windows\minidumps

give them a unique name and specify name in this topic..

also this can help: http://youtu.be/V2dBAQFETbA

I've already apply the dynamic CPU clocking fix by Spec8472 and I can see the CPU clocking no problem, however the minor bug problem still showing because before I install avast I did see the virtualisation in the word 'Yes' and dynamic CPU clocking all working 100% before I installed avast. So when avast was installed and the fix by Spec8472 has been included however virtualisation in the word 'Yes', and the word has change to 'Not Capable' I believe this bug is causing by the add-on fix when we can see still the dynamic CPU clocking fix by Spec8472.

So when is avast is going to release the next version to have both dynamic CPU clocking and virtualisation working at the same time.

Hi Pavels,
Much obliged for the updated solution to Avast 8.
Being an avid Avast user for umpteen years, I was quite disappointed when my pc completely freaked out after installing the initial 8 update, resulting in my resorting to my previous 7 (as quite a few die-hard Avast users did) knowing full well that your Avast Team would do their utmost to rectify the problem.
Anyway, that's now history and what really matters is that your service to us has been impeccable throughout the years and I have the cofidence that it always will be. Let me add that I never once thought of changing to another AV.

My opinion on the new UI?....Nice

Thanks again,

Caribman

Since building my first computer in 1984 I have seen the demise of some really good programs. Antivirus is not a growth business meaning that Avast or anyone else is creating new demand; To grow they must take business from competitors. Avast has been effective in doing so for a some years now. Has anyone asked why people are moving away from Norton or McAffee? Could it be that the programs from these behemoths have become unwieldy and impossible to deal with? My customers want an insurance policy that protects them not an agent that calls them everyday to let them know there is a new issue of thier unabridged dictionary.

Avast has been sleek, slim, light and focused and that is what we want. Avast 8 is the first giant step into bloatware and I believe it will cause it to go the way of other great programs.  By the way, do you know anyone that uses NERO!

Download  aswclear  and run it (in safemode) and then uninstall avast with aswclear
http://files.avast.com/test5beta/aswclear.exe
Reboot
Download fresh avast 8 IS http://www.avast.com/en-eu/internet-security
Install avast
Reboot
Try to insert license again ;)
