http://www.eicar.org/download/eicar.com this is detect
but https://secure.eicar.org/eicar.com not detect
why? :'(

WebRep can't scan the secure connection because it is encrypted.  However, File System Shield should detect it when it is written to the cache.  Also, other shields will check it when any attempt to execute a file is detected.

Of course, https sites can have infected files.  Even good sites can be compromised and infected; it happens every day.

It will be detected, just not by Web Shield.  This was true for Avast 7, and I think it is true for Avast 8.  The other Avast shields should detect a virus when the file is downloaded into the cache or saved to disk.

Opinions are fine practicalities are something different  -  The paid version and free version are no different when it comes to scanning https content.  It isn't the the web shield can't scan https, but that it doesn't scan https traffic.  The whole point of https is to keep prying eyes out and that would include your anti-virus.

There is actually little point in scanning the raw https content, that content is encrypted.  So when you have a virus signature which is used in detecting viruses, if the file being checked is encrypted, then there will be no match against the signature in the database.

Until that encrypted traffic arrives on your hard drive in a decrypted form and scan would fail.  Once decrypted the file if scanned or attempted to be run will be detected.

How is Web Shield to scan encrypted connections?  The answer is that it can't or it wouldn't be encrypted and therefore wouldn't be SSL.

File Shield does detect it when it is saved to disk and prompts to move to Avast Chest.  You are fully protected.  Avast is working as designed.  I am running AIS 8.

I'm sure it is probably possible to use brute force to decrypt it (if you have a monster system or network of such systems), but you probably won't be able to use your system for some considerable time.  So the practicalities aren't really there yet.

However, that said I think avast are working on this not so simple task to try to do something similar with the web shield and https traffic as it is doing with scanning SSL email. Don't quote me on this as it is something that I vaguely remember being discussed at some point, but I could well be wrong.

I also read that in the forum somewhere.  I seem to remember that is would work similar to the way Mail Shield does now with the certificates.

Yes, and I suspect this is still some way down the track before we are likely to see this.

Can we continue to use the 7x interface?  I hate the new version 8 look, which is trying to look like Windows 8.  For those that like to control settings, both the new operating system and your new interface are horrible. As someone who has used Avast almost since day one, I am greatly disappointed.

There is nothing to stop you, but in essence you are going to be losing out on the other improvements.

In all honesty I really can't get this trying to look like windows 8 (and I'm possibly one of the biggest detractors against win8 Metro), it is only one page. Just click on the Security tab and in essence you have all the information generally needed and no metro look.

Hi again,

my previous post was completely ignored. I also seem to find more problems with the update. The software updater does not work. It detects that some programs are out of date, asks me to install updates and then it does....NOTHING!!!! great work. disabled it.

Also, once again I'll mention that in the safezone feature, after one minimizes a window, the window cannot be restored by clicking on its tab on the taskbar!

I'm also thinking to go back to v7.

Thanks for your valuable time
