<snip>
my previous post was completely ignored. I also seem to find more problems with the update. The software updater does not work. It detects that some programs are out of date, asks me to install updates and then it does....NOTHING!!!! great work. disabled it.

The problem is that posting in this monster topic is likely to get lost/overlooked in the activity. You are best to create your own new topic than people can help on your specific issue or it just gets buried here, both your posts and those seeking to help.

Hi,

New avast!8 looks fine. I only had an issue with the software updater, that doesn't seem to be correct. E.g. it shows a new update (11.0.2.26) for iTunes, but after fixing it, iTunes wouldn't sync anymore. Also iTunes (v. 11.0.2.25) doesn't mention any new updates.. Weird..

I had to disable the AVAST to get the latest windows update....it would not allow windows update to download any updates! Anyone else have the same issue?

What Windows ( XP, Vista, W7 or 8 ) ?
Which Avast! ?
What firewall do you use ?
Where you infront of your comp while updating, any alerts ?
Did you chance any settings for Behavior Shield or firewall ?

Avast! 7 and Windows XP if you switched Behavior Shield to " Ask ", it will pront alerts for Microsoft Updates so you have to be infront of the comp to answer the alerts. I imagine that Avast! 8 may have the same behavior.

In all honesty I really can't get this trying to look like windows 8 (and I'm possibly one of the biggest detractors against win8 Metro), it is only one page. Just click on the Security tab and in essence you have all the information generally needed and no metro look.

I'm glad I'm not the only one with a similar sentiment. I keep looking/hoping/waiting for some alternate skin or UI for Avast8. (Are alternate skins even possible?  ??? )

hello,
besides the hard Avast work for our security (6 Years 3PC happy use) , why did they change interface with W8 metro look so soon , if they worked on it , there are some reasons ?
Interface brings more users , equal or flees ?
Waiting (just a little  ;) ) for alternate skin , why not ?

Hello,
i always used avast in recent years without problems so far, except that avast webrep was constantly crashing before the 8.0 update.
Now 2 days ago i was upgrading to 8.0 avast and instantly after installation i recognized a massive slowdown in all programs and internet browser actions.
After a couple of configuration sessions in the subsystem of avast (mostly files and browser behaviour) nothing happened regarding improvement of above situation.
I don't know what the problem with this new upgrade is but the configuration of avast might be a massive problem, the default behaviour is neglecting the purpose of
using a computer, its just not possible to wait a couple of minutes now for visual studio to load my projects.
I will move to another antivirus solution as time is precious.
So far i hope you can fix this issue as i might not be only one having this problem (reference to several entries in the forum ).

System is: Windows 7 64Bit
prior antivirus solutions: none
Harddisk: ssd
firewall: zone alarm free

Hi all,
we've just released program update for avast! Free/Pro/IS/Premier (8.0.1483). This is a very light program update fixing issues
you mentioned here on the forum related to original release of AVAST 8.

List of changes
•   Fixed issue with ZoneAlarm
•   Fixed issue with constant CPU frequency
•   Fixed issue with video players
•   Fixed issue with Virtual PC
•   Added some localizations

Download locations
http://files.avast.com/iavs5x/avast_free_antivirus_setup.exe
http://files.avast.com/iavs5x/avast_pro_antivirus_setup.exe
http://files.avast.com/iavs5x/avast_internet_security_setup.exe
http://files.avast.com/iavs5x/avast_premier_antivirus_setup.exe

It should be possible to install this version on top of your existing avast! installation (all settings should be preserved).
Or you can use the in-product updater.

Sorry for troubles, thank you for your patience and we hope that you will enjoy AVAST 8 without any problems now! :-)

thanks,
Pavel
I've been using Avast for couple of months and it's execellent! :) but there's one problem, since you've released a new version why not put secure delete in the virus chest with random data passes to GUTMAN method with custom number of overwrites because deleting the files from the virus chest doesen't moves the files to recycle bin, it just deletes it which is ineffective but since Avast is an antivirus software which serves to protect than secure delete is a must. Suggest you add a secure delete instead of a normal delete :)

After the latest update avast takes 2 or 3 minutes to load after desktop appeared (especially when starting the system after a few hours of shutdown)

Problem With Avast Free v8.0.1483:
1. Sometime I can't switch between one tab to another in Avast Scan Settings. Especially after I made some change in "Packers" Tab.  :(
2. Avast didn't save change I made in "Packers" Tab in "Scan From Windows Explorer" Option.  :(

Sorry for my bad English  ;)
