Well all this just hit me this evening…the old “your system is Unsecured”. I noticed my computer was locking up earlier (had to totally reboot 3 times) so I had my suspicious something was up before this notification appeared. Obviously AIS updated to 8.0.1483 and something is amiss. I tried the old solutions of manually updating and restarting via the control panel and command prompt as directed by the knowledge base but that hasn’t worked. So is a total uninstalling the solution despite some people not having success in resolving multiple issues that seemed to have cropped up with this update? Yeesh! So how does one reinstall AIS without going thru the hoops of buying first before downloading a fresh copy? I’ve still got to Dec on this copy.

My Vista with 64 bit support locks up after down load while re-booting. I had to restart in safe mode and go to an older Restore point to get my system to work. Does this fix stop that problem and is the Avast 8 now safe for Vista users?

Hi Just updated to (8.0.1483) today (using windows Vista). during restart of computer the system just locks up. Had to go into safe mode and remove Avast to get computer to work in normal mode.  Will try to reinstall avast with version 7.

Update 8.0.1483 needs a fix for Vista users!

Well sometime I experience the same slowing, When I play a 360p or 480p everything works smooth, but when I want to play a 720p then the fun begin, avast is constantly wearing cpu 15-20%, when I play a lower quality avast doesn't wear the cpu stay in 0-2%, and I have to mention that without avast I can play a 720p video on youtube without any slowdown . On some sites(the big ones), webshield tend to be aggressive on cpu wear. I saw that the next bild, promise performance improvements. Let's see what brings.

Just updated from Avast free 7.0.1474 to 8.0.1483 from GUI. Everything went fine (Win Vista, 32 bit). Thanks, Avast.

Ditto to Greenflow's experience.  Auto-updated from v7 to latest v8.0.1483.  Breeze.  Thanks for great AV that loves working with Comodo firewall. 8)

Oh dear... :'(   Avast8 loaded fine.  But found couldn't access gmail or virginmedia emails in Windows Live Mail.  Obeyed Avast's nag screen to delete SSL entries in Mail Shield and started SSL in WLM and changed ports in each email profile to 465 and 995.  Could only get WLM to work randomly.  Rebooted and got blue screens.  Only way back was to image restore and now back with Avast 7.   :-\

Will wait for next update because I'm not the sharpest knife in the box.  :-[

Hmm you could try the avast beta and see if your problem is fixed.
If not complete a bug report.

Well I always advice you to make custom install to avoid extra programs.

There was no choice to make a custom install, as it was "Update Program" from within Avast, not a new install. I hope Avast doesn't begin to suck, as companies often do when management changes from engineering leadership to marketing leadership. (e.g. when Apple fired Jobs, and now Spotify)
