Zone Alarm Users - PLEASE READ!
« on: March 03, 2005, 03:22:21 AM »
Hi,
a couple of questions - thanks for any help anyone better in lan stuff than me can offer...

1. Ok - so what if you're running a server on your PC as local host that
  • isn't accessible to the outside world
  • is part of IE6 trusted zone
  • a Zone Alarm Pro trusted zone

2. When I set up my proxy server in IE6, it asks if I want to use it for local addresses.
So, what implications are there if I do or do not use the proxy server for my local addresses given my above set-up?

P.S. I used the proxy settings and it worked inconsistently.  When I terminated Web Shield, browsing was back to normal.

(winxp pro sp2; IE6; FireFox1.0; ZA 5.5.062.011; avast 4.6.603; MSOutlook 2K; OExpress6; 3Mx640KADSL)

What do you mean?
Server for testing things?
Server for a lan?

Where/how are you using the proxy server for?

Hi,

I'm a web designer.  So, I run an Apache server with perl, php, mysql, ftp, mail on my windows system for testing pages and apps locally.  But it is all local (the server) with no global access - no direct connection in or out form my PC.  It is accessed via my localhost or http://127.0.0.1/ addressing.

I was setting up the proxy server in IE6 based on Vlk's suggestion on the sticky posted here, http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=11486.0 which addresses the incompatibility issues of Zone Alarm and the WebShield product of Avast 4.6.603.  The proxy settings are a work around to use the webshield and Zone Alarm.

Thanks for your reply....

Did you remove these settings from the browser when you uninstalled avast?
Naturally, these are not valid when WebShield is not running (not to mention avast uninstalled).

Thanks

Vlk-
> I haven't uninstalled avast...  Please explain.   The proxy settings were set to the brwoser to be compatible w/ WebShield and thus it was running...?
