outlook time out

Does anybody know why outlook on xp doesn't send large out going mail & the time out appears
it has only done this when i installed avast

Are you using GMail (@gmail.com)?
If you disable the smtp scanning, will it help?
Can't you increase the timeouts of both Outlook and avast?

no i don't have g Gail but i am interested in disabling SMTP. how do i do this ??

Left click the 'a' blue icon
Choose Internet Mail Provider and click on Customize
Go to SMTP tab and uncheck the scanning option
Do the same for MS Outlook plugin

avast scans the outgoing email, this can appear that there is no activity from the server and outlook pops-up the time-out, do you want to wait, etc.

You could also extend the delay before you get this pop-up from outlook. This may be better than disabling smtp, if it is just the pop-up that is bugging you.
