Avast 8 Free will NOT register

Can you not scroll further down from the Register Now button (as that should be where it is) ?

No ... there are no scroll bars at all to scroll down.

I've just updated my wife's pc anti-virus to Avast 8 from 7. All went well except the registration bit again. It is showing the same UI as you had, with the no scrolling down option available like yours did originally above. 
It does however have 50 days left to register. I'll leave it for now and see what happens when it gets down to 28 days left.

Without trying to make myself look stupid what are those letters on your UI picture above, they are S,M,A,R,U&E and are on the first yellow line down from the top of the UI?

It isn't my UI picture, but newview's image, those letters are keyboard shortcut keys, you press the Alt key and then that Letter and it is the same a clicking it with the mouse. They represent the names of the Tab above it, 'Security,' 'Maintenance,' mArket,' 'Recommend,' 'sUpport,' etc. etc.

I know this is an old topic. But "Renew Now" failed (I updated from a 7.X version) and I was trying to figure out why I didn't have the scroll bars or "offline registration" option. It was only here that I found answers, for which I'm grateful. Anyway, did the repair twice, didn't need to reboot but I did each time. Didn't work. Guess I'll wait, or do a full reinstall.

Whilst it may not require (actually say you need to reboot) a reboot after a repair, it doesn't hurt to have done so. If it hasn't resolved it after a repair and a reboot then the next step would be a reinstall.

  Maybe it was because it reached the 28-day mark, but I opened up Avast just to see if I'd need to reinstall, and there was the "offline registration" option. Didn't question it, just did it. Thanks for the advice though.

I had exactly the same problem with my Dell WinXP/SP3 laptop. I'd updated to Avast 'free' v.8 months ago but not the latest  iteration. Clicked to re-register and got the 'Retrieving information' dialogue box but then.....nothing.

Tried many times over last week with the same result. Not happy. So in the end I used the offline licence key method. Received the key very quickly in my e-mail and that worked perfectly thankfully.

It really shouldn't be like this though. I've been using Avast for some time now. Having to re-register in the first place let alone not being able too because there's some issue with the online system is one of a number of small things that have made me feel less happy with Avast than I used to be.

I, too, have tried everything mentioned with no luck.  I've used Avast for years and can't imagine any way around this problem. At the end of the 30 days I will have to switch to another AV program. 

Btw, the problem is on my laptop computer while my desktop has been registered a few months ago.

Have you tried getting and using the offline licence key as I suggested?

Yes, I've tried everything.  I'm a fairly advanced computer user, but this has me stumped.

I've even reinstalled the program. No joy.  I think now it's up to the Avast people to tweak their program.

Sorry for bringing back an old topic, but I am having the exact same problem. There are no scroll bars, and the "Offline registration" tab to enter my key in is gone. I tried everything that was stated above (reinstalling Avast 8 and clean/reboot/etc.). But nothing works. Is there anything else I can try?

Have you tried registering via the Maintenance/Registration tab? no key required.
