There is no media in D:/
« on: March 09, 2005, 04:42:00 PM »
Using Windows Xp. I have read the Help file and searched these boards but can not find a solution. When I wish to scan a CD, I always get the message "There is no media in D:/.  Do you want to continue? (insert media and click yes).

How do I get Avast to scan removable media (CD's)?

Are you sure there is an accessible media in the drive? Can you see its file in Windows Explorer?

Eddy,

I place the CD in the drive, click Avast (Simple User Interface), select CD/DVD, slide the slider to Quick Scan and click scan.  I have not seen a setting for internal or external CD-ROM.

igor,
Yes the CD shows in Windows Explorer.

My bad! I had been trying to scan a blank cd, but with a cd with data is scans just fine.  Thanks to you both.

A quick question while you are having so much fun: Am I to conclude that if I wanted to scan a new blank cd to check it for viruses before using it, that if it is indeed blank, that Avast will show "There is no media in D:/?"

You can't scan a blank CD (as you have found) and explorer can't view any data on it, it would just be blank in the explorer window, so there would be no point in trying a scan. If there was something on it, then you could right click the drive and choose scan.

That is correct. Since it is a blank CD there isn't even a mbr on it.

Right-click the drive and choose scan seems much simplier than using the Simple User Interface.

Again, Thanks to all of you.

Which was why I mentioned it, very useful for a quick scan of file, folder, partition or drive.
