Install without Real Time Monitoring

Can I install Avast without real time monitoring?? So I can just use Avast for manual scans as and when I want them. If so how do I do this??

may i ask why you dont want realtime protection?

there is something called install in compability mode that is suppose to make you install it togheter with another AV..... never used it.....and i would not install mutiple AV

Because I already have Zone Alarm which does realtime protection and it would not be sensible to have two AV's running at the same time both with realtime protection. Hence I want to install Avast without real time protection. I would just yat Avast for on demand scans.

When you install Avast can you customise install to remove real time scanning??

if you already have ZoneAlarm with antivirus i would dropp avast install and go for Malwarebytes as an extra scanner
alternative remove ZoneAlarm and use avast and Malwarebytes.

Why Malwarebytes as on demand scanner in preference to Avast?? Avast is usually better rated than Malwarebytes??

Your help is much appreciated. Two questions:

1) If I am just using Malwarebytes for on demand scans (as and when) do you think that the Pro version has worthwhile advantages??

2) If you use Malwarebytes Pro with realtime protection why does this not conflict with other AV with realtime protection?? Advice is always not to have two realtime protection software running at the same time.
