Are these Android apps & Gimp plugin safe?

Hi I recently came across some apps for Android and there not found on Google Play but there from booth from safe sites anyway my brother would like to be able to download YouTube videos on his Android device YouTube Downloader and TubeMate
now I know typically open source software tends to be friendly and safe but freeware can be a real mixed bag so what do you have to say about these apps safe or not?

And one last question I found a plugin for Gimp (which is as ever bit as good as Photoshop but "free") and I was wondering how safe it might be I mean I downloaded/installed a plugin from this Devaintart user recently on March 4th and I haven't noticed any major problems at all so it should be safe, well enough talk here's the link http://photocomix-resources.deviantart.com/art/Gimp-Adaptive-Equalization-102411734

Thanks though it was really late or should I say early in the morning when I made this post besides I also included the other question about a desktop plugin for Gimp so I just put it here instead, so in your opinion should I make a new post about these two Android apps or do you think that administrator might move this post soon?
And by the way I'm very familiar with VT so I guess I'll upload the zip file for this plugin and see what it says. :-)
