 I use the Avast 8.1483 free version on several computers.   8) I do the (hobby) administration of the families computers.  8)

All in all I had a mixed situation:

1 Computer Win 8 x64 Pro; AMD G880 Chipset; works perfecly    :)
1 Computer Win 7 (32) Pro; Very Old Intel Chipset 865PE; work perfectly     :)

1 Computer Win 8x64 Pro; Intel P45 Chipset; Multi User; Do a permanent loop at log-in screen  :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(
1 Laptop Win 8x64 Pro; Intel Chipset; Multi User; Do a permanent loop at log-in screen   :'( :'( :'( :'(

Uninstall & reinstall (with and without aswclear.exe) do not change the behaviour at the problematic PC.
After uninstall (in safety mode) both computer runs without any problems.

Hope next Version will fix this issue.

Is the Startup type of your aswVmm service set to Boot or Demand?
Check the following key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\aswVmm.
If Start REG_DWORD is set to 0x00000001 (1) it is set to startup type Boot.
if however it's x0000003 (3) you have the Demand start up type.
The installation of Windows 8 I have had it set to 0x000000x3 (3) aka Demand.

OS's used: Windows 10 Pro (x64) 1607 <-> Windows 7 Ult (x64) <-> Windows 8.1 Ult (x64) <-> Windows 2012 Essentials R2 (x64)
Avast Internet Security (sub for 10 PC's), HPM.Alert, Malwarebytes, Asus-x99 Deluxe/U3.1 (Intel Core i7 X980 EE - 64Gb Ram - NVidia Geforce x980 - Samsung PCI-e 950Pro 512 SSD), Microsoft Surface Pro 4 (6th Gen Intel Core i7 CPU - 16Gb Ram - 512 SSD)
When installing Avast! be sure to use the custom install... never the default!

@Jefferson:
Thanks for the information with the support package - but ty system needs to run after a issue, right?

My prob is after install Avast 8 everything looks ok Avast 8 runs perfectly. After restart the log-in is not possible.
When the icons of the usere shown, it looks ok too. On klick of one of the usere icons (to log in) the endless loop starts
screen flashes light - dark - light - dark ... Mouse still works but system is busy.

I was not able to shut-down or kill a process with task-manager.

I do not run other security programms (AV Scanners, Spyhunters) on this computers. Either I deinstall Sandboxie, too.
No change.

I try to install Avast 8 and reboot in secure mode to create the support package.

THX for now.

@CaptainLeonidas

THX for the information. My troubles are from 8th March 2013 but with the same Versionnumer 1483.72 from Avast 8.
Now (20th March) I deinstall the AV I used temporärly - donwload AVast 8 again and install w/o Chrome.

I check the REG entry you listed. Now the start it is already set to 3 (directly after the install).

After reboot both computer with troubles are now running fine.
Maybe the Install settings was change since 8th March but not the Version of AVast itselve.

 :) :) THX you very much for your Support   :) :)
