As already mentioned, the best suggestion is to update your Ram.  :)

I know it's always good to have enough RAM, but unfortunately this is a laptop I can't upgrade. But still my questions are not answered: Why changes free to pro version and does it change back after the testing period? Does AVAST 8 need a minimum of 2 GB RAM to run properly?  Is there much more internet-traffic caused by AVAST than in previous versions?

The system requirement can be found at:

I would suggest that you do a clean install of avast! to avoid any problems.
You can find help at:

REYSAJAM,

If you are using windows xp. Go to old apps.com and you can get Avast version 7. Version 8 is giving an odd bit of trouble with window xp users. Make sure that you use aswclear again in safemode without networking.

If you have any other traces of macafee /nortons these have to be removed with thier removal tools.

This is an issue as avast free turns to pro if you do a system restore!!!!!!!!! crazy!

Now i am back to version 7. Version 8 is causing crappy trouble with my networking connections all the time to the internet and having to reboot every now and then when i was using it.

It looks like this is still an issue.  Just had to do a restore today and I got the pro expired and no longer updating messages.  Re-installed 8 without using aswclear and seems to be OK for now.  Any more issues and I'm going back to 7 or maybe even another service.

Thinking that avast is trying to do too much and be all things to all people - in other words, the integration of all of the functionality is getting too complex and therefore subject to bugs which cause major problems to the users. :(  going on  >:(

Have had to do several Restores in the last few days and the old problems of Pro with an expired licence are showing up again. Just waiting for the cross to come over the avast symbol! Also usually get a black screen showing just the cursor after a re-start.  How can I go back to Avast 7? Currently have the free version of Avast 8 installed with Windows 7.

It's a well known fact from all the posts in here that avast! and system restore don't get along well.
I suggest you do a clean install to avoid any future problems.

So now that you've figured out that this is a real problem how about an apology for your earlier rude post, re; "unimportant"?  I'm in this thread looking for answers and have better things to do than read your condescending know-it-all drivel.

Bob360....

Come with solutions not work a rounds....
That's what's asked. If you don't come with solutions stay at the side-line and let the big-wigs do the talking.

Sometimes, when there is no solution, you need to use a work around.

Which is why you should not reply as the issue is already been covered that the work a round fails.
