Can't start MIMO application when Avast is running
« on: March 23, 2013, 10:25:29 AM »
Hello,

since the last update of avast, the Giganews MIMO application based on java can't start anymore.
Here is the error message:

unable to perform license verification
javax.net.ssl.SSLPeerUnverifiedException: peer not authenticated

And if Avast is stopped, I can launch Mimo.

Is there a fix?

Thank You

Regis

I suppouse you have enabled HTTPS scanning in your web shield configuration. The Giganews MIMO client most probably uses a "hardcoded" SSL certificate, so it will not work with the avast! HTTPS scanning mechanism. You can find more info abhout this issue (same as with dropbox) in the web/mail shield technical info at http://public.avast.com/~tuma/techinfo/.

The solution is either to add the license server address to the web shield exclusion list (recommended) , or completely disable scanning of HTTPS traffic by unchecking the "Scan secured connections" option.

Hello tumic,

thank you for your answer.
I've tried to add the server https://api.mimousenet.com in the exclusion list but without success, the application fail to start.
It's right that if I uncheck the "Scan secured connections", it's working, but it disables all https adresses.
I've opened an incident to Avast support but without answer for the moment.

Thank You

Regis

I've tried to add the server https://api.mimousenet.com in the exclusion list but without success, the application fail to start.

Than api.mimousenet.com is not the address, the MIMO client is connecting to.

I've opened an incident to Avast support but without answer for the moment.

You will for sure not get a better answer from the support than this one. As I'm the author of the mac web/mail shield,
in the best case your ticket will at the end land in my mailbox. ;-)

mimo uses your giganews account.  your account logs into the giganews server.  the server name is:

news.giganews.com

as outlined on the giganews usenet support FAQ:  http://www.giganews.com/support/usenet/

add the server name to the exclusion list.

Hello,

thank you for the info.
But after adding news.giganews.com name server in the exclusion list, the issue is still there?
