Posted about this problem last year. Thought it had cleared but came back soon after and still continues.
At any time Avast is automatically updating it's definitions, my pc freezes up completely and I might as well go and make a cup of coffee as nothing will work for several minutes. (even unable to access ctrl/alt/del)
Much earlier versions when I started using Avast didn't cause this problem, so the problem looks to be with how later versions of Avast works.
Recently spoken with another who had exactly the same problem and because of it he had moved to another AV program. If anyone has experienced this and found a way to stop it, would much appreciate any advice.
In settings I have the 'Load Avast services only after loading other services' box checked.
I'm running Avast 8.0.1483
