AEA + Endpoint Protection Suite updates
« on: April 09, 2013, 07:58:29 PM »
how often does the AEA check for updates? is there a way to force it to update? The reason i ask is i just realized our webfilter was blocking my avast server. i fixed that and i saw the server accessing avast download sites but when i go to update the client on my computer it doesnt change and says i am up to date. in the AEA console when i click Check AEA Mirror status it tells me this "========================================= avast! Mirror ========================================= Mirror folder: C:\Program Files\AVAST Software\Enterprise Administration\Mirror\mirror Mirroring products: abp,ais Current versions in mirror: avast! Endpoint Protection: 7.0.1455 (Jul 12, 2012) Virus database: 130409-0 (Apr 09, 2013) "

my computer is showing database version 130204-1

should i just wait a few hours and see if it sorts itself out since its unblocked now? or is there something i can try?

Ok so i checked my client this morning and it wasnt updated. i clicked check for updates and it  updated my definitions to the latest version. its set to check for updates every 30 minutes so why did i have to manually check?

Check to be sure that your clients update settings are correct and that they receive the updates Automatically.  Then check to make sure your mirror is up to date and finally make sure that your clients are actually connected to the server.

I screenshot should help where to fine these settings.

I cant figure it out Che. My settings are same as in your attachment. i can send setting changes to the client on the computer instantly. If i manually click update then the computer will update but it doesnt seem to be updating every 30 minutes. right now my computer still has yesterday's update of 130410-0. I checked the EAS Mirror Status on my AEA Console and it shows the definitions should be 130411-0. One thing i tried changing to see if it would fix it was i turned silent/gaming mode off. i had it on because i didnt want the staff bugging me everytime they got an avast popup. i left the silent mode for full screen apps on. It still didnt update so i just turned the silent mode off completely and now im waiting to see if it updates. Do you know of anything else that may cause the clients not to be checking for updates since it appears they do have connection to the AEA Server. Is there a local log for the client on the computer i can look at to see if its trying to check every 30 minutes?

Thanks,
KJ

EDIT* Its still not checking for updates automatically with all silent settings off.

I found a setup.log in C:\Program Files\AVAST Software\Avast Business\Setup . its showing my last update that got installed yesterday at 11:30 CST.   Should it be showing the check for updates every 30 minutes or does it only log when it installs updates?

So i accidentally killed my server. After a reinstall of the console and SQL the updates seem to be working now.

It must have been a fluke because its still not updating like i think it should. When i check my client's update window the "Last update attempt" should be no more than 30 minutes right? And even if for some reason it cant get the update from my server why is it not going out to the internet for the check?
