Stop putting icon on my desktop
« on: September 18, 2003, 06:40:44 PM »
Ok, many installation programs put an icon on the desktop, but why does Avast have to keep doing it over and over?

Stop putting icons on my desktop!

Besides this is really anoying  (to put the avast! icon on the desktop!) >:(
there is something else:
If the user configure the apearence of avast! antivirus folder at Start up menu (a desktop.ini file), each upgrade miss this option and the icon of the folder return to standard one  >:(

elmonty & technical, so these problems are still present in the last (4.1.268) update?? Gee, I explicitly asked for these things to be fixed! >:(

Or are you talking just about the previous (4.1.260) update?

Thanks
Vlk

AND HKLM-RUN->ashdisp
is imho recreated with every update; not useful for those who want to use avast as a 2nd (on-Demand-)Scanner :'(

VLK,

This is making me nuts!!! Enough with the desktop icons already.  Version 4.1.268 just put another on my dt.

I think you need to check with the Team to see what is going on.  There is no need for the icon on the desktop.  The tray icon is fine and won't change with any update.

Vlk, I just updated to 4.1.268: no desktop icon, no changes in Start Menu.
Remains what whocares asked to (not HKLM-RUN)  ;D
Thanks agais avast! team  8)

ashdisp in hklm-Run is still recreated with every iavs-update
but i use avast as an on-demand-scanner only on my 2nd PC -> have set the services to manual and disabled ashdisp, so maybe this is why iavs-update renews ashdisp-entry and tells me it needs to reboot every time ?

4.1.268 - 0309-2

 :)

I guess this is still a problem even as recently as ver 8.0.1419.

shgos says, simply delete it.

That is not a solution to a problem, it is just a flippant remark.

I keep deleting the icon, but it keeps coming back.

I guess I have to run a scheduled task every 30 mins or so to check for and delete the icon because avast programmers can't handle listening to their end users suggestions.

Any other ideas?

Mark.

Considering that you are responding to a topic, the last post of which was 11 years ago to the day a lot of water has flowed under that bridge.

This was about avast 4, which is totally different and the version you mention, 8.0.1419 is also very old and no longer receiving updates on that program version. avast! 9.0.2021 is the latest version. There is currently a beta for avast 2015.10.0.2022 ongoing.
