win32:adan viruses
« on: March 15, 2005, 04:47:49 PM »
Hi,

Your great product just located 3 instances of new viruses on my PC:  These were:

win32:adan-010 in a file called windows\system\dsmanager.dll

win32:adan-009 in windows\winsx.dll

and another instance of adan-010 in a file not easily described that was in a backup directory.

I have moved all these to the chest, but was wondering 2 things:

1)  What do these viruses do?
2) Are the files listed above critical and need replacing ?

Thanks,
Ratdog

The files you mentioned are indeed malware.

What malware does?
In this case it is a advertising and backdoor trojan.

This is not a virus, but "adware". Those files are not needed. Just to be sure, keep them in the chest for a few days and if you don't see any problems, delete them. Also, get a good anti-spyware program with real-time protection (like Microsoft Antispyware for example, which is free).
