Para-noid, I'm on XP Home SP3,  didn't mention the system because it's in my signature

The OS shouldn't matter. Have you tried to uninstall Chrome then re-install?
At the present I'm using avast free v8.0.1484 beta with no issues.
If nothing else try a repair Control Panel>Uninstall>double click "avast">click "repair">reboot  :)

The script shield doesn't scan Chrome on the latest version. (26.0.1410.43). I've tested on both my Windows 7/8 OSes. I've been asking the question for a while now that has the Script Shield updates been moved to the VPS or do we need to wait for another program update...

Para-noid, uninstalling & re-installing the latest edition of Chrome didn't help neither did help repairing current Avast installation of 8.0.1483.
But, upgrading the Avast to the latest beta 8.0.1484 solved the issue. I can confirm that script shield of Avast 8.0.1484 works with the latest Chrome 26 on my XP Home SP3.
Thanks for your suggestions!

Glad you have it working.  8)

v6.0.1484 beta was going to be my next suggestion.
I just didn't know if you were willing to beta test.  :)
