Thank you..I have done all of the steps to prepare the USB..my laptop was already set to boot from USB and still is...however now, despite it booting from USB previously it now won't. It brings up the acer symbol then goes straight to the repair page..it was giving a hit any key to boot from USB option in between those screens, now it isn't..it just briefly flashes on the acer screen preparing to boot os..but obviously isn't going to USB. It just seems to be getting worse  :( I have double checked by hitting f2 on acer screen and def set with USB to boot first. I haven't changed anything, and it was getting to the above screens before by booting from USB, all I have done is take out the USB and put the new stuff on it. Is this a virus that's just gradually closing it down?

No I do not believe this to be a virus

Switch the computer off for 10 minutes and then try the new USB again please

I think it something to do with the boot..is that possible. I tried the original boot again and it boots from USB...still have same problem with that one though. I go back to the second boot USB and it won't boot from USB. Not sure if that helps ::)

Now this is weird, could you transfer the data to the other USB (you will need to wipe it first) and then try again

Ok I have wiped the first USB and put the second boot onto that. Ive put it into the sick laptop and its doing the exact same thing..not booting to usb, just going from the acer screen to the windows error recovery screen, with a quick flash on the bottom of the acer screen that says preparing to boot os. Ive checked again and boot to usb is def top of the priority list on the boot list.

Just re-reading the thread you said that you were able to get to the command prompt, are you still able to do that ?

I can get to it by pressing f8  on startup, then repair my computer. I have it at the command prompt list now

OK....  Pain in the butt time could you copy FRST to the USB, stay at the command prompt and insert the USB

At the command prompt type the following  :

notepad and press Enter
The notepad opens. Under File menu select Open
Select "Computer" and find your flash drive letter and close the notepad.
In the command window type e:\frst64.exe and press Enter
Note: Replace letter e with the drive letter of your flash drive.
The tool will start to run.
When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.

Press Scan button.
It will make a log (FRST.txt) on the flash drive. Please copy and paste it to your reply.
