I'm not seeing any error messages. I'm just being overly vigilant... I'll carry on and let it sort itself out.
You should be overly vigilant. According to Avast's CTO, "Both streaming updates and the cloud features are absolutely vital for the product - without them, the level of protection drops significantly." That's copied directly from his post on another online forum.
If you're using any one of the paid products, you should also be overly upset.
You won't see any error messages. If you mouse hover on the tray icon you'll see "Your system is secured." And in the UI there'll be the green button with the happy-face and "Everything up-to-date."
Carry on and let it sort itself out is all anyone can do.
