update expired

I got a message that said my update subscription had expired and to fill in my key. I filled in my key and it said key was invalid? I don't understand. I am using vs. 4.6 and  my database seems to update automatically ok. What gives?

1) Check your system date and time.
2) The Registration key is valid for 14 months. Has this period expired? Register again (for free).
3) Use copy & paste method to apply the key (take care to not copy the 'last' blank space at the end of the paragraph: copy only the key).
