Avast! found Win32.Spyware-gen[Spy]
« on: April 20, 2013, 08:47:09 PM »
It found it during a boot-time scan this morning, and with the pinned topic, I rescanned it and gave me the same result. The file was "Setup.exe" and the severity was high. It was in a game folder which I had for years now so I assumed it wasn't the game itself and I picked it up elsewhere until I looked at the chest and found avast found and put the same file from the same folder in my Backup external harddrive into the chest last year.

So now I'm really starting to freak out this thing was my computer for a couple of months without me realizing this somehow, possibly longer. What should I do? It was chested and deleted successfully (The one from last year from the backup I kept because I'd didn't want to delete it if you guys wanted me to send it to virustotal or something along those lines, if this isn't necessary let me know so I can just delete it).

I'm gonna do a Malwarebytes Scan soon as well(Which will take another couple of hours ontop of this), anything else I should do or is that enough for now?

hey and welcome to the forum.

you could upload the file to virustotal.com and post the result here so we can have a lock at it.

but what you describe it sound it could be a false thread.

to be one the safe side please follow this guide and attach you logs.

a malware expert will remove if something comes up in the logs.

good luck.

Okay, attached logs, though aswMBR found something elsewhere that wasn't caught in earlier scans, do I delete it? That thread just said to post the log and I'm unsure if its safe to go ahead and delete it.  Have yet to use the Adcleaner yet since I was going to do that after aswMBR but...yeah.

edit: Attached the last log.

you only let AdwCleaner and Malwarebytes remove.....

now you wait for result on OTL and aswMBR diagnostic logs.....

removal experts are notified and will arrive here later today

It appears to be an Evo-gen detection on this game Touhou Guru Guru Danma  I would forward it to Avast via the chest to get it checked out

Urg already deleted that one, last night I just concluded that I could do very much without that one. Anything else I should do and worry about?

No that appeared to be the only problem.   Any anomalies with the computer ?

Nope not one bit. It did run a bit slowly after adwcleaner rebooted but that seemed temporary. I did realize my backup external might still have some of these files though if that helps.

Now the best part of the day ----- Your log now appears clean

A good workman always cleans up after himself so..The following will implement some cleanup procedures as well as reset  System Restore points:

Run OTL and hit the cleanup button.  It will remove all the programmes we have used plus itself.

: Keep Java Updated :

WARNING: Java is the #1 exploited program at this time. The Department of Homeland Security recommends that computer users disable Java
See this article and this article.
I would recommend that you completely uninstall Java unless you need it to run an important software.
In that instance I would recommend that you disable Java in your browsers until you need it for that software and then enable it. (See How to diasble Java in your web browser and How to unplug Java from the browser)

Now that you are clean, to help protect your computer in the future I recommend that you get the following free programmes:

Malwarebytes.

Update and run weekly to keep your system clean

Download and install FileHippo update checker and run it monthly it will show you which programmes on your system need updating and give a download link

If you use on-line banking then as an added layer of protection install Trusteer Rapport

It is critical to have both a firewall and anti virus to protect your system and to keep them updated. To keep your operating system up to date visit To learn more about how to protect yourself while on the internet read our little guide  How did I get infected in the first place ?Keep safe
