How Could This Happen?
« on: April 25, 2013, 06:33:09 PM »
I just checked the Maintenance Tab to see when I received my last update and it shows I now have Avast Version 1485.  I clicked on Program Update hoping it would show Version 1483 but showed I had the latest Version.  I don't want any Beta Version so how can I switch back to 1483?

You would have to perform a clean install to revert back to the stable.

The latest third beta 8.0.1486 has just come out so you might as well give that a try :)

Unless you're having a problem with .1485, why go back to the older "stable" version ???
There are improvement is .1485 over .1483 and if you're not having any problems,
doing a clean install to go backwards, makes no sense.

Default settings are automatic VPS updates and ASK for program updates.
If it happened without your approval, you changed the default settings.

I didn't change anything.  Just done a system restore and now have Version 1483.

Why did you do a system restore? The avast self-protection module doesn't cooperate with system restore.
And if you do a system restore from safe mode, you should use "extreme" caution.  :)

I disabled all of the shields for 10 minutes on Avast before I done the System Restore and I didn't do it in safe mode.

Disabling the shields isn't the same as disabling the Self Protection Module.
I guess you didn't watch the little video I made that explains how to do that:

Simple if you know how. :) Pain in the ... if done incorrectly.  :(

Hi -midnight,

System restore was designed to pull a computer out of a major failure like a bad or corrupted driver installation, etc. A good deal of data on your computer can be lost each time you restore as not everything is backed up. It has been suggested to you before to use a drive imaging program as that will completely restore a previously saved copy of your hard drive. I believe you agreed to have a friend do this for you. You do not have to disable Avast's self defense module when restoring a disk image.
