have problem uninstalling

have little problem uninstalling avast or upgrading. Error massage being "error reading products from C:\program files\Alwis software\Avast5\setup\part-setup_ais-557.vpx". Any response toward solving this problem will be welcome.

What avast version do you have installed free/pro/AIS, latest build is 8.0.1488 ?

The path is for an old avast version, you should try the avast uninstall utility:
- Download the avast! Uninstall Utility, aswClear.exe find it here and save it to your HDD (it has uninstall tools for all versions).
  • 1. Now uninstall avast! - using add remove programs, if you can't do that (as appears to be the case) start from the next step, reboot.
  • 2. run the avast! Uninstall Utility, it will request it be run from safe mode (and will handle the boot into safe mode), first for earliest version, 5.x, 6.x, 7.x, etc. if previously installed and then for 8.0, once complete reboot into normal mode.
