Thought I needed to keep something up to date that didn't appear to be with java. Now it no longer works after several installs and reinstalls.
I am a bit frightened to disable my avast (cause I have some floating xfinity thing on my screen, my sound card fails several times an hour, and problems with adobe working). I always run avast in silent gaming mode, and haven't had any messages that there were problems with java.
Could avast be blocking something that I need in my downloads of java? Is it safe to disable it? I do boot time scans, and have several trojans in my virus chest, but nothing new has been detected since a trojan in Turbo Tax last February. I am running the free version of Avast with Windows XP Pro OS.
