My problem with automatic updates is that they aren't automatic any more, with Avast! free.
First, I have to decline (again) to purchase a different version. Then I have to OK the reboot. Then, after the reboot, I have to decline (again) to install Chrome and a Google toolbar.
Really, this isn't a hardship for me, but I'm also supporting far less computer-literate relatives, who needed to be talked through what used to be a completely automatic process for every update. And I'm still trying to talk them through the de-installation of McAfee, installed in pretty much the exact same sneaky sideways manner by their last Java update.
Please put this back the way it used to be: setting "Automatic Update" led to actual automatic updates. -JW
