One more advice (about desing)
« on: March 25, 2005, 07:37:27 PM »
We were recently having this talk here about avast! image to outside world...
I have one more advice about this...
I am talking about that blue screen that slides from the bottom right corner of the screen whenever there is an update..
I mean alwil has some great designers and can make something better
My advice is that

keep the current size that has now.
The background color should be something similar to this forum's colors
there should be an icon on the top left of the panel taking about 1/4 or less with a picture of the virus symbol or the cross... I have seen both on avast website
Whenever it fails, an X or something
Whenever there is a new program update, the avast symbol... I have seen a very nice glowing avast symbol in this website sometime ago... I think it was of ADNM or something
And of course near to the symbol there should be an explanation...
I could design something right now to make it more clear but unfortunately I don't have much time...

This way, avast would look much better and users will identify what happened right now easier...

There is already a notification when avast or the VPS is updated.
If you have the sound on, there is even an annoucement.

Yes I know... I am just making a recommendation to change the current with something similar to this so that is better visually and easier to recognize...

P.S: I have set the sounds to OFF because when I watch a dvd and avast updates, it scares the s**t out of me with the sound alert...  :)

I don't know anything about  (desing).  I don't even know what it means ???
I have even been searching on the internet for it before this post.  Then I decided it really didn't matter.

I surely understand o2xygen's request for different designs.  We all see through different eyes.

But after having to be off  my computer and the internet and having to reinstall everything +Avast, I was never so glad to see the familiar blue box pop up on the right hand side.  And yes it always scares me too.  I will soon turn the sound down, but for now I love to hear those whistles and bells!!! :)

I think that o2xygen has a valid point. Since Alwil has changed the look and feel of the avast! website and avast! antivirus program, why not change the update box as well?  :-\

Yeah, the blue one is so obsolete especially considering all those recent design upgrades... it looks pretty plain and unfinished, not so professional looking like avast! deserves. It reminds me of some AVG design parts, which is not so good  ;D

I came up with something very, very simple, but in the same time looking much more professional than current ones... Maybe something like this, to match new wonderful avast! web site done by Martin Novak ?

Cheers !

I think Alwil are right in choosing the current display, the message box should be able to be displayed on most systems regardless of OS, resolution, etc. Yes it may well be ugly but it is functional.

In the same way text size can be a problem for some people using skins (with low res system and or eyesight), hence the option for No Skins.

I don't see any reason for not being able to see message box like I posted in my previous reply, on any OS, or any screen resolution. Every single box can be resizeable. Also, fonts are not a problem at all... old (blue) message boxes with avast! information also uses regular fonts.

This is just a matter of different look of those information boxes, not anything like - let's make avast! even more "heavy". Some new styled (in the same time, better and more professional looking) message box, could just replace the old one without singificant additional memory usage.

Bottom line, it's not so important to have some bitmapings inside new message window, but change of those bright blue colors to something pleasant, soft and nice (just like new avast! web site design), would be great.

Cheers !

If this does get changed please make it so the text and images used are clear and sharp so it's easy to read.  The way it is now the text is easy to read because it uses a dark background with white text.  You could use a light background with dark text.

An example is the MS Anti-Spy popup, very clear and sharp text.

First thing would be to fix those annoying interruptions of full screen programs by these update messages, then we'll talk about changing it.
If anything is annoying it's avast! VPS update popups interupting a gameplay.
When you play some game, popup comes up and game starts to lag graphically. When popup is fully shown,it's ok. But when it goes down again,it's the same as when it appeared. So i have to disable VPS notifications with AEC,only error messages are still enabled. Otherwise i like Sashas design, just with a bit more visible text. Layout itself is ok.

I tried to give it a nice soft touch, but if you guys like sharper images better, maybe something like this (same image, but different text color) ?

Very nice Sasha...
Did you receive any opinion from Alwil team? Will they change the blue panel of updates alert?
