Unable to register

I registered once, but subsequesntly redownloaded the program and re-installed it
Now when I attempt to register, all I get is "Web Service unavailable"

the program is throwing up register notificataions regularly

cannot register using my existing account
and
am unable to create a new account as well

same error  "Web service unavailable"

and not a word from support in the forums.

email confirming the creation of the second account arrived two hours afterwards

but I still cannot register on either account

now my Avast is throwing up request boxes advising me to register

but when I attempt to all I get is

proceeded to the Avast web site and used the registration there

I was sent the registration code, but cannot enter it
It says (in the email) to open AVAST, choose Maintenance, and then 'Insert the license Key' at the bottom of the screen

there is no such
All I have is a <REGISTER NOW> button

which if I use again attempts to sign in, but then ends with 'Web Service unavailable' 
so now I have a registration code, but no place to put it

Oh yes, and when I clicked on

I get a untrusted certificate warning from google  ... its your site and its not right?

even when I get to that site, AND enter my password and so, I get nothing, the video doesn't play nor is there any option

I checked out the FAQ and it seems the bottom half of my registration screen is blank

there is no option to upgrade, nothing at all, and no 'insert registration code' button
but the top portion indicates the product is not registered and now says I have 4 days left to register.

I  ran it down to the wire, 1 day left and I was still unable to register. Even with a registration code sitting in my inbox

so I uninstalled Avast using the uninstall feature included in the program.
I then downloaded Avast again, and installed it
Went to the registration screen, used 'already have an account' format entered my credentials

! It worked.  My Avast is now registered for one year

In the end I may have created my own problem with registering, because when I originally 'uninstalled' Avast all I did was to drag the program to trash
It occurs to me that this may have left the preference files/registration files from the original installation in my system - and that's why the new Avast couldn't register
Using the Avast unistall program feature this time corrected that situation, so the new new Avast could register properly

This reply and solution is posted in case there are others with the same problem

To uninstall Avast you should use the Uninstall function in the avast menu, "uninstall avast".
