Ashsimple - Error Message (Illegal Operation...)
« on: September 21, 2003, 11:34:17 PM »
When I start a system scan using AVAST 4.1 Home Edition, I get the following error message, which I think is a Windows 98 problem:

Ashsimple - Windows error: " This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down.
ASHSIMPL caused an invalid page fault in
module KERNEL32.DLL at 016f:bff7b997."

The scan continues but I don't know what's going on here. Any help is appreciated.  Thanks.

Is this Win98 or Win98SE?
Also, at which point, exactly, does this happen? During a scan (all of a sudden)?

According to the address, it's Win98 - the address is inside the EnterCriticalSection code (pushing the argument for x_WaitSemaphore). Maybe uninitialized Critical Section?

jpmccormac: Does the Windows error messagebox include any other information (a stack dump, for example)?

I'm running Win98 (not SE). The error occurs when I start the AVAST anti-virus scan.

Yes, the error includes the following: "ASHSIMPL caused an invalid page fault in module KERNEL32.DLL at 016f:bff7b997." There was more in the stack dump but I haven't recorded it.

Sorry jpmccormac, I use Win98SE and give no such errors. I could not help you...  :'(

Well, it's a pity... the stack dump could probably tell us where exactly the error is.
It you get this error message again, could you please send us everything that is in the error window?  Copy & paste would do, I think.

Thanks.
