Malicious URL Blocked keeps popping up.
« on: May 11, 2013, 12:54:49 AM »
Hello.

I know next to nothing about computers so I have no idea what is going on. For the past few hours the pop up saying 'avast malicious url has been blocked' has been popping up several times. I only visited three sites today and it even happened in google search. They are sites I've been on for years and this even came up on my gmail. Some of the urls that avast said that were blocked were also third party tracking cookies I have disabled on these particular sites so maybe that has something to do with it?

I really have no idea and have done a full scan with avast as well as a boot scan. I've even scanned with Malwarebytes and attached the log but it came up clean. On my mom's computer the same thing happened when she was on her yahoo mail so I'm wondering if it could be a thing with avast. I'm really just at a loss because like I said I know nothing about computers.

Thanks!

follow this guide and attach (not copy and paste) the requested logs   http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=53253.0

1. AdwCleaner
2. Malwarebytes.   the one you posted above was not updated before scan
3. OTL
4. aswMBR

when done the removal experts will be notified. It may take hours before they arrive so be patient

So far the problem seems to have stopped after an avast update but here are the logs as requested.

Now everything is added.

I opened the program and pasta the text into the box. Then I clicked "Run Fix". After that my screen went blue and my computer shut down. When it came back on it said that my computer had been shutdown improperly and my desktop icons were all messed up. My normal programs which come up automatically are also gone. I can't even find the program when I search for it. What should I do now?

Here is the attached the log. I managed to run the program again and it worked but I'm a little confused as to why the blue screen saying there was a problem with my computer popped up and it restarted suddenly on the first try.

I will remove my tools now and give some recommendations, but, I would like you to run for 24 hours or so and come back if you have any problems

Go Start > All Programmes > Accessories > System tools
Right click Disc Cleanup and select run as administrator
When it pops up at the first prompt select OK after it has done some calculations the tabs will appear
Select More Options tab
Press Sytem Restore and Shadow Copies Cleanup button

: Keep Java Updated :

WARNING: Java is the #1 exploited program at this time. The Department of Homeland Security recommends that computer users disable Java
See this article and this article.
I would recommend that you completely uninstall Java unless you need it to run an important software.
In that instance I would recommend that you disable Java in your browsers until you need it for that software and then enable it. (See How to diasble Java in your web browser and How to unplug Java from the browser)

Now that you are clean, to help protect your computer in the future I recommend that you get the following free programmes:

Malwarebytes.

Update and run weekly to keep your system clean

Download and install FileHippo update checker and run it monthly it will show you which programmes on your system need updating and give a download link

If you use on-line banking then as an added layer of protection install Trusteer Rapport

It is critical to have both a firewall and anti virus to protect your system and to keep them updated.
