AVAST Internet security

Hello,
New to this..my AVAST always started and I could see the icon and open..etc.  Now it does not show the icon and I can not open it. 
Any ideas??
I see AVAST running in task manager, firewall 1816, service 2068, antivirus 1628 (the numbers are pid) It appears they are running but again I can not open the program.

Please help

- Which AV did you use before avast!..??

Following on Asyn's questions, I have another one:
Have you tried to open Avast from its desktop shortcut? If you can't, check if Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable - x86 is installed on your PC.

Thanks for the reply...its back working again...I have Windows 7 Pro, 64 bit sp-1  I had Norton 360 deleted all of it with their tool. don't know any thing about the Microsoft visual C ++ .
The AVAST Internet Security, op version is the 8.0.1489 , virus definitions 130724-1. The shortcut didn't work yesterday, I went ito the 86 program and tried to open there...nothing...it works fine now...not sure why it did what it did. Glad its showing in the icon area and it updated like normal..
