Build .1489 - Possible Bug: Virus Alerts message sending
« on: May 13, 2013, 03:41:43 PM »
Hello,

After setting all the parameters in Settings/Virus Alerts, when I click on Test, Avast! freezes and becomes totally unresponsive.  It's impossible to make it stable again, and also trying to reboot via Windows commands is impossible (the system itself freezes).
The only solution is clicking the on/off button of my machine aka turning off the power.

Please, keep in mind that you have to use port 465 and SMTP server in order to reproduce the issue (I used a yahoo account).
I was able to reproduce it on my father's system as well (same OS/security software, different hardware).

Could anyone please confirm (or not) the issue (but be very careful, since the system freeze). Thanks in advance.

Regards

I'm using Windows 7.  I updated to Avast 1489, and changed the outgoing SMTP server to 465 and had no problems.

I normally use port 587 with no security.

Nothing relevant happens, I didn't receive any test mail.
Tested on my home pc, see sign below

Anyone?

I forgot to enter the server information under virus alerts.  I went back and did that, and I still didn't have any problems.

AT&T is my ISP, but I use Thunderbird to get my Email from Yahoo.  outbound.att.net is my outgoing server.

Giogio, you tested it only on Win 7, didn't you?

Yes only in a win 7 system.
I tried to use also an account with smtp port 25 and it's OK

Yes only in a win 7 system.

So basically the issue has nothing to do with the OS.

yeah, seems like it is triggered only by SSL connections.

I already know how to report a False Positive file to Avast! However, I have no idea about how to report a bug to the developers...

Thanks,  Diddy. Now I should figure out how to let developers know since none of them have replied.

Yeah I'm having the Identical Problem too!!  I'm running Win-XP Pro Svc PK3 using MS-Outlook as an email program.  I tried to set up to send myself an email if an Avast message was generated.  My ISP uses Encryption and SSL for their POP and SMTP connections on port 465.  When I enter the SMTP information into AVAST and hit TEST - my PC goes Catatonic.  It's notable that there is no SELECTION to implement SSL encryption in the Avast email alert set-up.  I suspect that is the source of the lock ups.

I could not tell whether you have successfully submitted this problem as a BUG to the support people.  So I did.  The ticket number I received is/was #YGB-910-26500.  Hope they fix it soon.

Hey grenneam,

I just noticed your posts - sorry.

Now, I'm wondering why they don't tell us in the Help that SSl is not supported in mail reports? Yeah...

I was not lucky enough to receive a reply from them, thank you very much for the info.

EDIT: poor English...
