Please use standard controls
« on: April 06, 2005, 04:28:36 PM »
The file scanner uses customized appearance.
While this looks nice, it is really not user friendly.

Controls don't  have labels and can be mistaken with ornament.
Controls type is unknown: radio ? checkbox ? thumbnail ? button ?
System controls change also.

Remember that users are familiar with standard controls, won't forget them because they use them regularly, and that they are mostly the same across OS and machines.
Use customs, and you loose that.

Please have a "System" skin !

Turn off the "Enable skins for Simple User Interface" in program settings, page "Common".

Thank you.

I was expecting this to be in the skin choice...

I agree with musaran on this point. The 'skinless' look should just be one of the available skins. In fact, I think it should probably be the default skin.

Yes, it is a pity that you need to go to Settings/Disable the skins.
The skinless traditional one is the one I use.
It gives the info needed without needed to hover the mouse pointer over the controls to get a hint.

But this is not only Avast problem. Ever increasing there is a tendency to "skins" that actually hide much usefull information.
Maybe the traditional windows interface is seen as "boring" with many and they actually want the non standard interfaces.
