Why does Avast use 'High risk Hostings'?
« on: May 23, 2013, 03:48:52 PM »
Going through my Firewall, I noted at boot up first on the list is 62.212.82.102, so I got curious and did a search, I got-:

Quote
62.212.82.102 was not found in our database
This IP address belongs to a High Risk Hosting Provider
ISP:    LeaseWeb B.V.
Host Name:    a349vg.avast.com
Organization:    HostingXS
Country:    Netherlands (NL)
City:    N/A
Report 62.212.82.102 Whois 62.212.82.102

Why should Avast use a 'High risk hosting provider', is this not risky?

Rather depends on whom is saying it is a High Risk Hosting provider and for what reason.
Windows 10 Home 64bit/ Acer Aspire F15/ Intel Core i5 7200U 2.5GHz, 8GB DDR4 memory, 256GB SSD, 1TB HDD/ avast! free 24.3.6108 (build 24.3.8975.762) UI 1.0.801/ Firefox, uBlock Origin, uMatrix/ MailWasher Pro/ Avast! Mobile Security

Thanks Craigb.
Just that I was curious what the IP was, here's the one I got the info from http://www.abuseipdb.com/

Gee, you don't know who to believe these days, obviously they're using different 'yard sticks' so to speak.

As DavidR said " depends on whom is saying it "

How often they update there databases and from where they gather there information makes all the difference.

Seeing that gives zero information on why they consider it a high risk Hosting Provider (my why in last post).

Looking further at the stuff on that page, it seems they are trying to give you a headache only to sell you an aspirin.

Me I don't like resources like this which give zero information so a user can make an informed decision.

Lol, I like that expression.... I agree after looking further at the advert, stands out like a sore thumb, now I see your point.... had to look twice!
