Avast 4.6 blocks NNT port 119 - BAD
« on: April 05, 2005, 06:13:57 AM »
On April 02, 05, I downloaded and installed Avast! 4.6.  All of a sudden, my newsreader stopped working, saying the connection was being refused by the newsserver on port 119.
When I completely uninstalled Avast 4.6 on April 03, the newsreader program went back to working perfectly normally.
I noticed that in the Avast.INI file, there is a [MailScanner] section containing the line: NntpRedirectPort=119.  The Technical explanation of the Avast.INI file does not explain anything related to NNTP port 119.
What should I put in the Avast.INI file to make it leave port 119 alone, so my newsreader will continue to work normally?
Thanx,
NewsreaderJD

You don't need to edit avast4.ini file if you want to disable NNTP scanning. Just click on the "a"-icon in Windows taskbar, click Details>>, double-click "Internet Mail", select NNTP and disable scanning inbound and outbound news.
