[Update Broke System] Help
« on: June 02, 2013, 10:01:04 AM »
Well it all started like this, this morning or 4 hours ago, I started my laptop running on Win7 x64 home premium with avast free installed.

Te first thing i did, i opened Google Chrome and entered g into the address bar, it worked, and popuped my most recent used gmail address link.

What happened next screwed my system totally, the Avast green auto update popuped tellin me it updated. Then i opened Microsoft Word and continued on my work.

To cut a long story short, the keys G, H , Up Arrow, apostrophe , keys ALL stopped working.

I tried the following:

1. Restart (duh)
2. Boot to linux live cd
3. Used external keyboard (in case of hardware failure)
4. Reset CMOS

Finally, I uninstalled Avast hoping it would be ok again. It didnt.

The only thing that was updated was Avast with that popup. Im pretty sure it got to do with the update which screwed my system permanently .

Now i have to copypaste whenever i need those keys...

Open Control Panel, go to Region and Languages, and click on the Keyboard and Languages tab, and see if anything has changed.

Since you done all the other stuff ... You've probably checked it's not;
One of those blue "Fn" Key thingies on laptops, like num-lock which often gotcha's me. Mine seems to be switched "on", for no apparent reason, every now and again. And I swear a bit until I remember to check for that.

(Please excuse this brief interruption if it's not helpful)

The only other thing I can suggest is to go to Device Manager and update the keyboard driver, or just uninstall the driver and restart your computer.
