My avast just crashed with this error and caused a GP fault. How do I find out which file caused it?

Do you have the exact content of the GPF error window?
Is the problem repeatable? You can turn on the creation of the report file in the program settings, and select the "OK files" to be included in the report file. The report will get rather big, but when it crashes, the "bad" file is likely to be located near the end of the file (or rather, a little "after" the end - but you can probably guess what it could be).

What avast! version do you have? (Home or Pro? what build?)

Anyway, can you describe how exactly the error appeared? First, the "Internet program error" appeared in results and then it crashed, or...?

Walker ,
I don't know your brand of computer but 1 of my computers is and " Sony VAIO " and they experienced the same speaker noise feedback problem on their systems . They also provided a patch fix in an effort to correct this .
Perhaps ( possible ) the problem is not in Avast ( necessarily ) but more so in your computer in need of a patch from the manufaturer ?
Just a thought so don't be quick  :o

Hi Vlk, this message serves you right for asking questions ;D

I haven't got all of my 'application' software fully loaded, but I just did a test and ran a full scan (Thorough + Archive) 53Gb without an error message in sight ;D, even some 5-8Gb backup files that had given me trouble in the past were ok.

Still you ask questions like this and some idiot (me)  :P is bound to find something!. So... is there a 'coffee making' facility in the latest version?  ???

This is probably only happening on my machine  :-[ (anyone else???) and I'm not worried... yet!, but when the scanner is running, my monitor speakers are making a noise similar to a duck with diarhea being squeezed in the middle!. For those that have never tried this (you haven't lived!  8) ), it also sounds like a coffee pot syphoning.

Now Someone has to test this  :) :) :)

Hi,

i'm just encountering this error at a boottime scan on a highly infected PC.
The full error is:

File c:\windows\system32\EqnClass.Dll Error 42003
File c:\windows\system32\mlang.dll Error 42003

and a few others - but they scrolled out of sight already.

On my laptop and my second PC i never encountered this error.

The problematic system is a P4 - 1800 (SDRAM) with Windows XP Home (all patches but SP2). Thorough scan + archives with newest avast! home and newest virus files.

Hopefully this can help you. If you still want the files drop me an email. (didn't read the whole thread because i wanted to type the error right off my monitor.)

hm. maybe i just found the problem.
The files can't be read. crc problem.
Maybe thats the reason for the error code.
trying scandisk now. If files can be read you'll get them.

Well error code 42003 (Internal Program Error) sure wouldn't be returned if the files were simply not readable (at least I hope so).

BTW which CRC do you mean? Low-level HDD CRC?

This is my first post.

Had a virus alert tonight, JS:Anitur-4 and it referred to my G: Drive.
This a USB HD containing captured video and some backups and copies of important files.
I can't remember the path it listed but it was something likeG:/system volume information/-restore/lots of numbers?
I searched for this folder on G and couldn't find it.
I chose repair, but nothing seemed to happen except the alert box disappeared.

I then decided to check the drive and ended up with a massive list of Internal program error. (42003). Hundreds of files listed, all with errors? Too many to sent or list here. See attachment of log

What next?

So... Am I right that a scan of any file on the G: drive yields the 42003 error then?

No, it's not all the files. I'm running checkdisk right now on that drive, but there are thousands of files on it. From the log it seems that all but one of the errors are in one folder. All the .jpgs in that folder scanned OK but not the .doc files for example! My captured video and Windows backup files scanned OK.

Why not stop system restore which will clean out all the files in that folder. After a reboot, you can always enable system restore again.

I've located G:\system volume information\ _restore\

Initially it denied me access and said it was empty. I gained access by altering security settings, and its now 2.26 Gb.  Scanned it and it was fine!

Bye the way this folder supposed to be there, or have I copied it here by accident? Sorry to be off topic.
