"AshoutXt.dll Problem"
« on: April 08, 2005, 12:49:57 AM »
Quote
"The add-in "C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashOutXt.dll" could not be installed or loaded. This problem may be resolved by using Detect and Repair on the Help menu."

I get this everytime I open Outlook. I click "OK" and continue entering into Outlook. Don't tell me to do a search for the ".dll" mentioned above because I've already done that and the answer isn't there.

I no longer use Avast so I can't repair the installation or do anything with the AVAST files to correct the problem. . .they aren't on my computer anymore. I've done a registry search for every possible combination of Avast/Alwil/ashoutxt.dll/Avast4 with no success. As far as I can tell there's no reference to any part of avast on my system, but apparently there is somewhere in the bowls of Outlook because it tries to load it everytime I try to launch my e-mail.

Any ideas?

Is it possible to disable avast plugin into MS Outlook?

Outlook 2003 > Help > About > Disabled items
Outlook 2000 > Tools menu > Options > Other > Advanced Options > Add-In Manager

If you uninstall Outlook and install again, would it correct?

ej,

I think that it would have been easier to fix things if you had contacted us when you had Avast installed.

However, you can download the missing or corrupted file here:

Techie,

Only problem is I didn't have this problem when Avast was installed. It didn't surface until after I had uninstalled it. So apparently something was left behind. Some pointer coded in Outlook that still thinks it's needed to run. It doesn't affect Outlook in any other way that I can tell, it simply pops this message up with an "OK" box prior to loading Outlook. It's more of an annoyance than a real problem, but I would like to omit the annoyance.

I should have noted that I tried getting the file from the location you suggested, but it didn't work. Iit says DOWNLOADS ARE CURRENTLY DISABLED, which is not true on my machine, so I don't know what it means, plus when I clicked on the Download button, an error page at PayPal came up! Are they trying to SELL these files?!?
