1. Can anyone tell me if Avast (I have the free version.) is not supposed to be able to scan anymore (I thought it once did.) in Safe Mode. Mine won't, although I can, and use, Boot Scan.

2. Also, I'm always being told by Windows Security Center (I have Vista and OS is Windows.) that Avast is off when I turn on my computer. I learned that if I open Avast, go to settings, then active protection and turn off and back on again file system shield, mail shield, or web shield (It doesn't matter which.) Windows Security Center will begin to show Avast as on/active.

When I used to have Avast, I never had to do this. I also thought that by now Avast would have fixed this problem, if it's a problem with the software. So, my question, here, is, is it a problem with the software, or, does this sound like a virus or what? (BTW, I recently uninstalled/re-installed Avast and continue to have the same problem.)

Thanks for help with these two questions.

Windows reporting that avast is disabled is a Windows problem, right click the avast ball and disable shields for a few minutes then re-enable.

Avast doesn't scan/function in safe mode.

I confirm what Craig said.
The problem with Windows is saying avast is turned off is a bug in the security/action center.
It happens also with all other av's.
The bug has been there since Windows XP.
