Delta Search Engine?
« on: June 10, 2013, 07:07:59 PM »
Hi,

I suddenly find my Google Chrome has been taken over by 'Delta Search'. I found it in Control Panel and uninstalled it - found it under Chrome and deleted it, setting Bing as default. So far so good.

12 hours later I click on Chrome and up comes Delya Search again. Help.

Yesterday I ran a full virus scan + Malwarebytes - there were no issues. I did notice however that I was unable to set the PUP search to 'on' in Avast - although I specified PUP in Malwarebytes.

Can anyone help me get rid of Delta Search please?

It appears in my address bar like this:-

http://www.delta-search.com/?affID=121240&babsrc=HP_ss&mntrId=B845AC7289C7AA52

It seems to be hiding somewhere in my laptop.

Many thanks.

Is there a Delta search extension in Chrome? Also is it listed as a search engine? Check those things. Empty your history and temp files using CCleaner. The run AdwCleaner.

Thanks Aventador,

I found Delta again under Settings > Set Pages - deleted it and pasted in the Bing url. That seemed to do it.

Nevertheless am running CC Cleaner now.

Delta got in piggiback on a download although I never saw it mentioned or knowingly authorised it.

Your welcome. Most likely it came packed with an installer. Be careful not to just click next, next and next. Also ad AbBlock Plus to Google Chrome.

AdwCleaner found these delta files, but I have checked FireFox and there is no sign of Delta Search anywhere in that programme. I looked in FF extensions and addons, no mention of Delta.

It found other stuff like 'Babylon' but I have no idea which files are suspicious or harmless so I haven't opted for delete.

yes..... and letting AdwCleaner remove what it find is usually not a problem
but since the OP is unsecure....he may want a second opinion from a removal expert, so i gave him that option

Hi Pondus,

That option is fine because it will set the OP's mind at ease,

Thanks guys,

Some more - it might be diagnostic: when I still had Delta Search on Google Chrome, I noticed I could not enable the PUP scanning option in Avast. Now I have (hope) at last got rid of Delta I can switch the PUP search on.

I did a quick scan with it on:

I did a full scan but couldn't find the PUP switch in time. The full scan showed many more files that Avast could not look at - they all look pretty innocent to me?

'Apply' is basically a greyed-out option for any of these files - either scan result - nor can you send them to the 'chest'. Is that because these files are harmless of has the Apply application been disabled please?

Will catch up on the other suggestions later - kind thanks :)

because they are not detections....but a scan error report. avast just gave you a scan error report and the reason why
files that can not be scanned for reason given by avast is just that and does not mean they are infected

files that could not be found error is usually gone if you reboot and scan again

some files could not be scanned is the most frequently asked question in the forum so lots of info if you forum search
