Upload to avast with a FP notice. Magic Jack has not known to be malware, see: http://askbobrankin.com/magic_jack_good_or_evil.html

@ msroth

I believe bob3160 uses magic jack with avast and no problems, he isn't on-line right now. Hopefully he will see the topic's subject and give some feedback.

There is little point in uploading it as a false positive (FP) unless avast is actually alerting on one of its files, which you haven't mentioned.

You could try this in the meantime and see if that resolves the problem:
AvastUI > Security > Antivirus > Web Shield > Settings and check the 'Scan traffic from well known browser processes only' option, see image, click to expand.
Windows 10 Home 64bit/ Acer Aspire F15/ Intel Core i5 7200U 2.5GHz, 8GB DDR4 memory, 256GB SSD, 1TB HDD/ avast! free 24.2.6105 (build 24.2.8918.824) UI 1.0.799/ Firefox, uBlock Origin, uMatrix/ MailWasher Pro/ Avast! Mobile Security

Which Magic Jack are you using ???
Direct connect (Doesn't need the computer) or, the old one which is plugged into the computer.
Make sure you have the latest drivers installed.
Make sure that the firewall allows the port that MJ uses.
I've been using the Magic Jack Plus version for over a year as my home phone provider without any problems.
I also use the free version of avast! so there isn't any avast! firewall interaction.
The following may be of help to you:

Yes, the main thing is that as far as I remembered you didn't have to make any adjustments in avast for it to work.

From what I've seen in my usage of magic jack, it only uses the UDP protocol. Does Avast even scan udp?  :-\

Why would anyone want to use this?
Are you using it ???
I have for about 5 years. The last 2 years I've used their new version.
It's saved many a lot of money. I pay 29.95 per year for my phone service
which includes porting my original phone number and haven't had
one bit of trouble. (how much are you paying ???)
Unless you actually use a product, please don't post someone elses "review".
We all know that you can't satisfy 100% of your customers.
We also know that not all customers follow directions. :)

No, I don't use it.  I don't know how much I pay because we have the Xfinity triple bundle which includes phone, tv and internet.

Pardon me for posting on this thread!

Bob, I have a question for you.  If Magic Jack doesn't have to be connected to a computer, how does it work?  Thanks

We have a base the answering machine plugged into my router and have 3 handsets.  How many phones can you use with Magic Jack?  Do you get call waiting, 3 way calling and call forwarding?  If so, I wouldn't mind trying it.  $29.95 for a years service is I'm sure a whole lot less than we pay a month.
