Virus Chest
« on: April 14, 2005, 05:09:41 AM »
Hello all,

Is there a more direct way to open the virus chest? Or you have to always open from the avast! scanner in order to do that?

Thanks for your time,

Elminster

I'm like you, I don't find a faster way to reach the virus chest ::)

You can start the ashChest.exe executable from the avast! installation folder, if you wish.

Oh...I see,

Is there any reason why Avast doesnt have a shortcut for it?
Or its better open it in tradition way (trought scanner)?

Thanks for your time,

Elminster

I don't think there's any special reason for it - just that most people don't need it, so it's probably not worth confusing them with another option/shortcut.

I would have thought that a direct link is not necessary as most people don't access it regularly, I have only been there a few times in almost a year, mostly to check something to reply to a post for help.

There is nothing to stop you creating a desktop shortcut for ashChest.exe, right click on the file and select Send To, Desktop (Create Shortcut).

Also, isn't it possible to manually add a shortcut for it on the Start menu in the Avast folder?  I suggest this in case Elminster prefers to keep his/her desktop streamlined. :)

I used to know how to do this in Windows 98SE; but sadly have forgotten, since it's not something I do frequently.

Hello,

I am using Avast for sometime now, and realized that if you set it to ask you what to do when a virus is found, when you say delete, it will not make a backup in virus chest, so I guess I dont need so much this virus chest short cut... :)
O made some tests with eicar... I thought that everytime a virus appears, no matter what action I take, it would always create something in virus chest... But it wont.. So I dont need access this thing all the time.. :)

By the way, what means "streamlined"??? heheh

Thanks for your time,

Elminster

It entirely depends on the context it is used.

In the above context, streamlined would mean clutter free, minimising the number of icons on the desktop.

Thanks man!

In this case, thats me!

I just have 4 icons in my desktop (default windows icons less IE icon).

I am very selective about what I install in my computer and I hate icons in desktop.. ehehehe :)

Thanks for your time,

No problem, I too like a relatively clean desktop, but I have about 10 normally and some of those are to make it easier to help on this forum, like a shortcut for the avast help file and the simple user interface.
