Windows Live / Windows Essentials Mail and Avast

I found, unfortunately, that Windows Live Mail from Windows Essentials2012 did not start. It turned 15 seconds and then disappeared. Same is with Windows Live Mail from Windows Live 2011. Windows is Windows 8 OEM.

I deinstalled Avast. Windows Live Mail works flawlessly. Iwent to Windows Defender as a virus protection for a while, and then to another product. In addition, with those alternatives my computer starts up quicker.

(As a side detail, I went away from Windows Defender because it blocked legitimate applications, it scanned and quarantined Volume System Information contents and its allow feature did forgot quickly the allowed applications. All of this was not desirable.)

I use Windows 8, windows live mail and avast!8 without any problems and do that on several computers.
What other security programs are installed on your system ???

There is no other antivirus program.

 I de-installed the OEM-installed Norton, and in addition ran the Norton deinstaller tool. There is a backup programEaseUS Todo Backup that has installed resident parts, but is not configured in any way to operate continuously. I reconfigured the location where WLM has its data folder: it is not in the Users directory, but on a data disk D: .

The web contains a lot of entries of the behaviour of WLM (that I experienced), and associations with antivirus, but not with Avast. This forum reports issues with WLM mostly regarding SSL, but not my issue.

Don't know if that isn't where the problem lies. all of my systems have it installed to the default folder.

Maybe, but your suggestion is not directly known to solve the issue. For backup and restore I prefer to have the mail folder off C:, as is with all user data, and because it is off C:, I mentioned it . Unfortunately WLM did not start reliably, with Avast installed,.

Based on the above, logically, rather than a specific AV being at fault (since you say the web has "lots of entries" referring to other AV's), would it not appear that WLM is at fault? I mean, if an app has a problem with a single AV, one might decide the problem is in that AV, but if the app has problems with multiple AV's, logic would say that it is the app which is at fault.

You mistoke me. The Web has a lot entries regarding WLM not starting, without solution. Some mention vaguely a relation to exotic virus protections and other tuning softwares.

This post by the OP is about WLM and Avast.  I can't do without WLM 2011 or WLM 2012, but for AvAST there are alternatives. The replies are general knowledge regarding software XXX biting software YYY  but not yet leading to solution.

Edit: even if WLM is at fault, the solution, or fix must come from the AV part. That's reality.

Unfortunately, yes (or better no). It depends only on Avast being installed or not. Avast being turned off, taken your question litterally, does not matter. Currently, Windows Live works and AVast is not installed (uninstalled).

Proof is a big word, but evidence is present. I even double-checked, this means: first I was hit by the problem. Then I deinstalled Avast and activated Windows Defender. Two weeks later I installed Avast again (Real-time part of Defender already turned off, and it deactivated itself completely by presence of AVast). Then I deinstalled Avast and installed another virus protection.
