I have been having this issue for a while, but I am so tired of not working I am asking for help.

MY problem is with Avast and Outlook 2011 for Mac trying to connect to pop.secureserver.net.  I have tried the SSL port of 995 and non-SSL port 110.  Nothing works.  But as soon I disable the Email Shield from AVast it connects via SSL or non-SSL.  I even added the pop.secureserver.net in the exclusion list but that did absolutely nothing.

I need help what else I can try.

Please note:  GMail, Yahoo, and another email account I have within Outlook 2011 ALL works fine.  Also!  I can SEND email via SSL through smtpout.secureserver.net.

Are there any relevant error messages from com.avast.proxy in the system log when trying to connect to pop.secureserver.net?

I also try retyping my password and that didn't do anything new.  Does Avast "cache" the password??

Do you get the " warning: auth_error: authorization failed (authorization failed wrong password)" error message
every time you try to fetch mail (and the mailshield is on)?

The pop3 server violates the POP3 protocol by sending this error message which causes the avast! mail shield to
drop the connection. Without the mailshield, the mail client  may be retrying the login with another password, but it is
just a guess as I can not reproduce the error because I do not have an mail account on that server.

Yes every time mailshield is ON... it drops.  once I turn off mailshield, I can get my email from that POP3 server.  without doing anything else.

I want to revisit this problem.  which I am still having...

I have a question.  If I added pop.secureserver.net (pop3 & pop3) to the exclusion, shouldn't Avast avoid (stop intercepting) that server?

because even though I added that to the exclusion list, it still won't let me connect to that pop server correctly.

The exclusion list is in fact IP address based as it can not be "by definition" done domain name based.
Although you can enter domain names, they are translated to the appropriate IP address when the
exclusion list is loaded. The problem is, that pop.secureserver.net uses round robin DNS, that gives
you every few seconds another IP address. So every time (POP3 connection) you get another address
than the one resolved when the exclusion list was loaded, the IP address does not match and the connection
goes still through the mail/web shield.

So..... what's the solution to all of this problem?

I can't get any email via my Outlook 2011 and I can't be protected via Avast if I disable mail check completely; because I also use outlook to get 3-4 mails from another account.

To me it seems like a problem with Avast, because as soon as I disable Avast's mail check, everything just works.
