Any comments on the 4.6.652 version?
« on: April 20, 2005, 04:13:34 PM »
Hi all,

I'm bemused that no one has reported a problem with the new build yet - is it really that good? :) Or it's just that you haven't installed it yet. :-\

;D

Thanks
Vlk

Everything working perfectly... Installed it the minute it came out... Even posted it to Wilders update notifications.  :)

Seems to work fine here :)

just a question:

What is your advice to use Ad Muncher with WebShield without having the proxy?
The only way is to set OptIn=0?

Thanks and keep the good work :)

Heh VLK, sometimes the good programs like your Avast just work.
I still did not get a prompt to update, but read it elsewhere being available.

So installed in my admin account though it might have been possible also with my XP Limited one I normally only run.

Been a happy Avast user over a half year, but still do update my On-Demand only now pay scanner Norman that updates not as often as Avast :)

Perfect  8)  ;)
I expect nothing less than this  ;D

Just to report: the two iPush emails received 'while' updating to 4.6.652 report an error: error during processing.
I'm thinking that the ashMaiSv.exe was in the 'middle' of the update process and generated an error... Am I right?

My only comment has to do with the new Zone Alarm detection.

Probably the new detection can't distinguish between ZA Pro and the free version which I use, but maybe that pop-up screen the first time you start the new avast could clarify that the privacy-protection features are not in the free ZA and therefore (for most people) it's fine to check "No" if that's what you're using.

Admittedly that's partly covered in that "no previous problems" wording, but a little expansion/clarification wouldn't hurt.

Do you also get a connection timeout in Outlook Express?  Even if you are not normally an OE user, OE has the capability to log all of the mailserver activity when you try to read or send a message.  Setup is about the same as TB for the server, but under tools/options/maintenance you can select to log all the server messages.  Might help figure out the problem-unless, of course, everything runs fine with OE.

Well, the thing is, there seem to be some problems related to ZA/WebShield interaction even in the case of ZA Free. It's strange, but that's the way how it is. :)
My personal hypothesis is that some of the privacy blocking features are still present in the Free edition of ZA (not configurable, they're just there)...

Time will tell if this was a wise decision, but for now, it's IMHO better that 10 people will reconfigure the stuff manually than for 1 to be unable to browse the web.

This is an official release.

Just two comments:
1. Clicking the link at the bottom of transparent proxy & Zone Alarm warning screen opens Firefox (my default browser) with completely new and clear profile - which may confuse some users :)
2. Browser (on Windows XP /SP2/) is started with LocalService privileges what, I think is not a very good idea...

Interesting detail, but you seem to be right :)
It's because it's called by the WebShield service.
