deleted avast! from applications and it still pops up on startup

I was trying to delete avast! because my computer runs so much slower with it installed but it still pops up when I turn on my computer.  I tried clicking on the box that pops up and it says that there's an error (I'm assuming because I deleted the actual file from the applications folder).  Is there any way to still delete it off of my computer?

Because that's not the proper way to uninstall Avast!. When you launch avast for the first time it installs components in other locations.
On the avast menu when running the application there's an uninstall option. I suggest you install avast again and use that option.
