Accessing my router's web interface not working
« on: April 23, 2005, 10:01:41 AM »
Hi,

I'm trying to access my router from a local computer using the local IP address of the router and I can't. It seems that it just starts reading and trying to access the router but it won't load...

I didn't know what to do but then after a few minutes I decided to turn off Avast! On-Access Protection and after that, everything worked just fine!

Can someone provide some idea on this ???

Which is your operational system?
Which is your firewall?
Did you allow ashWebSv.exe to connect the Internet?

Yesterday I installed my new D-Link router and I had a similar problem: after uninstalling of old usb-modem driver, that was right!!! Maybe my experience can help you, I hope.

Hi,

First, sorry for my poor English...

I have the same problem as "shai"...

When I'm trying to access my router  from a local computer using the local IP address of the router only the status can be displayed and when I want to login to the configuration  it seems that it just starts reading and trying to access the router but it won't load... and freeze totally the Router...

I work with Avast home edition (French)  on a Win XP (French) SP2 System with a USRobotics 4-port Broadband Router Model 8000A

The only way I found to access to the configuration page of my Router is to disable totally Avast protection... it is not secure...

Any secure solution are welcome...

Thanks in advance

Hi,

Yes I already tried to disable the first one (webshield), the second (network protection) and also both...
No changes with the 3 proposed cases... the Router configuration always unreachable !

Sorry

When I disable all of the services on Avast then everything is working just fine... when I just disable the web scanner, then things still don't work.

Are you using dynamic IP allocation or you're using static IP's to your computer and the router?
If you change the method, will it work?

The only way to access to the Router status : http://192.168.123.254
then You must login to access to the configuration of the Router and it is at this moment that it freeze...

My IP is dynamic

Here is the result of IPCONFIG :
 Configuration automatique activée . . . . : Oui
 Adresse IP. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.123.108
 Masque de sous-réseau . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
 Passerelle par défaut . . . . . . : 192.168.123.254
 Serveur DHCP. . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.123.254
 Serveurs DNS . . . . . . . . . .  : 195.238.2.21
                                     195.238.2.22

Here is the actual Router Status
Item                                WAN Status                 Note
IP Address                    81.241.114.198           PPPoE
Subnet Mask                    255.255.255.255
Gateway                            81.241.114.198
Domain Name Server   195.238.2.21,     195.238.2.22

The Wan Status IP Address and Gateway changes after a new connection

If you need more information I'll search...

Ouistiti, I'm not that good on this... but mine is very similar to yours except for:

My IP is static:

Adresse IP. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.1
Masque de sous-réseau . . . : 255.255.255.0
Passerelle par défaut . . . . . : 192.168.1.254
Serveur DHCP. . . . . . . . . . :  (none because I use static)
Serveurs DNS. . . . . . . . . . :  (my ISP is different from yours)

Here is the actual Router Status

IP Address. . . . . . . . . : my actual IP address (201.XX.XX.XXX) PPPoE
Subnet Mask. . . . . . . .: 255.255.255.0
Gateway. . . . . . . . .  .:  (my ISP is different from yours)

Ok if the Wan Status IP Address and Gateway change after a new connection but, for me, the subnet mask is the same in both cases.
Could it be this?

... but why would a dynamic IP effect accessing the router when Avast! is on?

It shouldn't... sorry, but I've messed your post with this:

Yes I already tried to disable the first one (webshield), the second (network protection) and also both...
No changes with the 3 proposed cases... the Router configuration always unreachable !

In this case, even with avast! disable the user can't reach the router.
In your case, the problem could be in WebShield or avast! configuration.

I have the same problem as described by shai above:

can't access the web interface of my usr 8000-02 router.
with the web access I didn't encounter any problems (so far ;))
but when I try to access the web interface the router seems to be shot (no reaction and no access to the web anymore, for all machines connected to this router).

any suggestions for the possible reason or how to solve this??

Any hints are highly welcome!!

Hello,

I must admit we have had some issues with certain hardware devices and their web interfaces in the early builds of webshield. As far as I know the problems should be all fixed today.

Nevertheless this still seems very similar. If WebShield is really involved the problem should vanish when WebShield is terminated. Can you guys please re-try with terminated "Web Shield" provider (not paused, but terminated) and report the findings? If that does not help, could you please try to find out which avast! provider is responsible for the troubles? E.g. it is possible to terminate them all and the start one at a time until it breaks...

Thanks.
