Problems with logon with MS Messenger 7.0 final release? If you encounter the error message with the number 800701f7, then pause Avast Instant Messenger in the On-Access Protection Control (the letter a-icon) and logon with MS Messenger. MSN messenger 7.0 just stopped responding after few latest security updates from Windows update web site yesterday. I'm not telling that it was reason for sure for MSN to start acting weird, but I've noticed it since downloading latest Windows updates yesterday. MSN Messenger 7.0 worked fine before, and now, as soon as I start it, after few seconds it completely hangs (brand new system, fresh installation of Windows XP Professional SP2, all up to date, ZoneAlarm Free and avast! Pro 4.6.639, VPS: 0515-1)

I had to uninstall it, and I reinstalled MSN messenger 6.2 and it's working flawless. I'm not sure what's going on...  :-\

EDIT: btw, I tried disabling avast! and ZoneAlarm (temporary of course) completely, but nothing I tried helped...

You can read here about how MSN messenger hangs on some systems after 5 seconds (more or less):

http://msnblog.stuffplug.com/?p=94

just search that page by HANGS word.

Also, some info could be found in here as well:

http://forums.wugnet.com/Messenger-Unable-launch-MSN-Windows-ftopict348889.html

and here:

http://forum.mess.be/index.php?showtopic=6865

There is nothing though, on how to solve that problem... most likely we have to wait for new release...

Well, I'm not quite sure can anyone from these forums help you with this one... after all, all these problems have nothing to do with avast! antivirus. The real problem is in new version (7) of MSN messenger. Many people reported various problems with latest release of MSN messenger, and final conclusion is that BETA release was much more stable than final one.

I had similar problems with MSN messenger 7, uninstalled and reinstalled it few times, and now everything works without problems.

Maybe some of those MSN messenger forums could help you more...

In the mean time, try installing one of those patches for MSN messenger, maybe one of them will help you, although their function is not fixing msn messenger crashing problems... See here:

Cheers !
