error in Windows log
« on: April 19, 2005, 07:50:58 PM »
I have avast home version 4.6.623 french version.

When I look in Windows XP antivirus log, I have several times the same error :

"AAVM - scanning error: x_AavmCheckFileDirectEx: avfilesScanReal of F:\RECYCLER\S-1-5-21-1644491937-412668190-682003330-1004\Df3.exe failed, 00000005."
         or
"AAVM - scanning warning: x_AavmCheckFileDirectEx [UNI]: F:\RECYCLER\S-1-5-21-1644491937-412668190-682003330-1004\Df2.exe (F:\RECYCLER\S-1-5-21-1644491937-412668190-682003330-1004\Df2.exe) returning error, 00000005. "

Can someone tell me where it comes from ?

Error 5 means access denied.
Try emptying your recycle bin - does that solve the problem?

The recycle bin is empty.
It seems me that all denied accesses are on the specific folder F:\Recycler

I have 2 partitions :
C: for Windows system ( XP French Home Edition SP2)
F: for different programs ( web browser Maxthon, ... )

Why avast scan this folder ? Is it possible to tell avast not to scan this specific folder ?

The error means a process has an exclusive access to those files and avast is not able to scan (= open) the files. I'd not recommended to ignore this folder from scanning - but you can set it up in settings of the Standard Shield provider.

2 days ago, I've 'entered' in the exclude list, "F:\RECYCLER\*".

But today, there's "AAVM - scanning error: x_AavmCheckFileDirectEx: avfilesScanReal of F:\RECYCLER\S-1-5-21-1644491937-412668190-682003330-1004\Df1.exe failed, 00000005" in Windows antivirus event log.

Can you tell me why the exclusion of the folder doesn't work ? Sincerely.

Are you running Norton Unerase service?

Where did you enter the exclusion?

The exclusion is entered by right click on the icon in the systray, settings, exclusions then I choose search and I check the folder I want to be excluded.

No I don't use any Norton product.

I want to give a little precision : VRDB generating is running when my computer is not in use.

Do the errors come when VRDB is beeing generated ?

I think the errors come from the Standard Shield that is monitoring the file access. I don't know who exactly is accessing the files... I guess Windows itself.
The Standard Shield has its own exclusions - click on the avast! tray icon, click "More Details...>>" if not already expanded, select Standard Shield from the list of providers, switch to the Advanced page and put F:\RECYCLER\* into this list as well.
