Mac acts Strange since Avast Install

Ok, My Mac Air is acting up since I did an install of Avast. It now seems to sometimes sit in a hybernative state for 10-15 seconds, freezes, even screen turns off for 10-20 seconds at times. Any ideas?  Anybody else had issues like this?
